I havn't blogged for a while cause so much has happened, work, moving and the boy and I are expecting! If everything goes to plan our little one will arrive in early January. We're stoked and we were lucky enough to go to Oia in Santorini. The timing was perfect as I was just starting to get over my morning sickness too.
We stayed at a place called Chelidonia Villas and I can't rave enough about it. The location in was central to everything we needed. Our studio apartment was clean, smartly furnished and it even came with a little kitchenette - a life saver cause eating out is so expensive there. Our room was cleaned everyday and the bathroom was huge.
The value of the accomodation was the cherry on top of the cake for us. From the start we had such pleasant dealings with the owners Erika and Rose. I had emailed contacts with Erika throughout from queries to booking, she even organised a taxi from the airport. When we arrived her husband Rose gave us the ropes on the island and even gave some great recommendations for a restaurant. One of them being Petros - I highly recommend it. It was affordable tasty food.
Above is the view from our studio, we sat there every evening watching the light disappear and the moon rise, it was absolutely magical. The famous Santorini sunset was not from this view but its only a stroll from our place. If you wanted to see it, be willing to join the rest of the pack. Below are some pics of what its like and I have to say the sunset is truly breath-taking.
The accomodation unfortunately didn't come with a swimming pool but we walked to Armoudi bay for a refreshing dip. It was a 'port' like area with no sand but we managed to lie on the boulders like seals and took a swim in the caldera - word of warning, the caldera is very deep with no shallow area. For unsure swimmers like me, its can be quite frightening.
Another thing to be aware of is access to Armoudi bay by foot involves getting up and down 250 steps. It was no easy task and being pregnant did not help. You could rent quad bikes to get down there or hire donkeys to get you back up - we didn't do any of those for personal reasons. I found the quad bikes scary and I didn't believe in making a donkey carry me.
Our favourite place to eat was Edwin - a quaint little pizzeria near the carpark. Food was great, yummy and affordable. I highly recommend the green salad which had so many herbs it really packed a punch.
One of the things I really liked about Oia was how healthy all the animals looked. Dogs roamed the streets but all wore collars. Food and water were left out on the streets for them which I thought was such a nice change from seeing sad treatments of animals when you're on holiday. The dog below looks so happy gazing out onto the ocean. Nice life!
I made friends with a little grey cat we ended up calling bluey - she would visit everyday and had the sweetest voice.
I highly recommend Oia in Santorini for the relaxation and scenery - you'll have an unforgettable time and take some of the most stunning photos in your life.
